History of Bangalore

History of Bangalore is very rich and full of Dynasties and rulers. The city presently known as the IT capital of India is also notable as one of the ancient cities in India. The city is also the capital as well as the largest city of the Karnataka State.

The History of Bangalore dates back to 4000 BC. The historians have found stone implements in the outskirts of Bangalore that dates back to the Middle stone age. According to the esteemed Indian newspaper The Hindu there is an inscription in the Parvati Nageshwara Temple in Begur tells that the History of Bangalore is almost 1000 years old. The Inscription dates back to 890 A D and it tells about a Ganga Dynasty war that was held at Bengaluroo.
One major incident happened to the History of Bangalore when it came under the Chola Rule in the year 1024. It was found that by the year 1100 the Hoysala king named Veera Ballala gave Bangalore a new name Bendakalooru.. According to the History of Bangalore the dominion of Bangalore was transferred to the famous empire named Vijayanagara in the year 1346.

The real History of Bangalore city began in the year 1537 when Kempe Gowda founded a mud fort in the city. This site later became the city of Bangalore. In the year 1638 the marathas captured the city of Bangalore and by the year 1687 the city became an integral part of the Mughal empire.



The year 1759 is marked as an important year in the History of Bangalore. After the Mughal leased Bangalore to the Wodeyar in the year 1689, the commander in chief of the Wodeyar, Hyder Ali became the ruler of the Mysore Kingdom which Included Bangalore. The Wodeyar however remained as a figurehead.

Anew episode in the History of Bangalore was added after the death of Hyder Ali. His son Tipu Sultan declared himself as the Sultan. Under the rule of Tipu Sultan Bangalore and Mysore flourished in every ways but Tipu Sultan was defeated and killed by the British. After this it became a part of the British East India till the independence of the nation.
